Thank you for your enquiry about our young drivers' scheme.

The scheme is usually operated on the third Sunday of the month (no sessions in August and December). Training consists of one hour's professional tuition, which is given by DSA Approved Driving Instructors in vehicles provided by the Driving Schools using private roads at Worcestershire County Council complex, County Hall, Spetchley Road Worcester. Lessons start at 9.00am, 10.00am, 11.00am, 12:00, 1.30am, 2.30pm and 3.30 p.m.

On arrival, please park in the right hand car park at the Countryside Centre and walk to the Pond room at the Countryside centre, which is the room to the left of the cafe entrance. This is where all young drivers should report to the YDS Organiser.

Do NOT drive into the County Hall Complex, you will not be able to get out! In order to take part in this scheme the young person must be over 15 (and under 17) and physically able to reach the controls of the vehicle. Any disability must be declared and this information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The fee is £22.00 for registration and the first lesson, then £19.00 for subsequent lessons, which must be paid at the time of booking. All cheques should be made payable to WGAM (Worcestershire Group of Advanced Motorists). Payments must be made in advance of the lesson to secure your place. All cancellations must be advised - as it may be possible to fill your place! PAYMENT WILL BE FORFEITED IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION WHERE THE DRIVER GIVES LESS THAN FIVE FULL DAYS NOTICE.

Should you wish to take part in this Scheme, please complete the form and send it together with a cheque for the amount of £22.00 (or £24.50 if you require a copy of the Highway Code) to the above address. We will only contact you when we have a place available. Please bear in mind that vacancies are limited and your cheque is valid for up to six months. Please note we will not acknowledge receipt of your application unless you fill in the bottom of the form and enclose a stamped SAE.

Mrs Sue McKenkie, who was concerned for her children’s safety on the public highway, originally set up the scheme in 1982. When she moved to Antigua with her family the scheme was taken over by Ernie Taylor who continued until his death in 1991. Various volunteers from the Worcestershire Group of Advanced Motorists have run it since, up to the current day.

Safe driving,
Tony
