Skidding While Accelerating

This often occurs when pulling away from a standing start and is usually caused when accelerating too hard. A contributing factor may be due to a poor road surface such as gravel or mud.

If this happens while the steering is set at an angle, for example joining a road from a junction, understeer, or oversteer can occur depending on whether the car is front or rear wheel drive.

To regain control:

  • Take your foot off the accelerator.
